My Controversy

My Controversy

While my controversy does not have a huge effect on a lot of people, it had a big emotional impact on me. I was born and raised in the Seattle are so the Seattle Seahawks have always been my favorite NFL team. In 2014 we won the Super Bowl (for those who are not familiar with football that is the championship). In 2015 we made it back. The frenzy in Seattle was like nothing I've ever seen before. Nearly every store, person, and car had something Seahawks related. We played the New England Patriots in this years Super Bowl. I don't think a team has ever come closer to winning the game and lost as the Seahawks did. After being down, they drove down the field with nearly no time left. They were literally half of a yard from getting into the end zone and winning. Then Pete Carroll made one of the most controversial calls in NFL history. Instead of handing it off to Marshawn Lynch, one of the best running backs in all of football, he made the call to have Russell Wilson throw the ball. The ball was intercepted and the Seahawks lost the game. It was devastating. Millions around the country (except for those in New England) were left with their mouths on the floor. Why would you throw the ball?! Lynch would have easily scored. It was one of the most heartbreaking experiences of my life. This article, which comes from Washington Post, gives Carrolls response in that he did not like the matchup on the field thus, he called for a pass. However, there is really no excuse and he made one of the worst and most controversial call in NFL and left millions around the country, including myself, heartbroken.
